Trader on GH¢100,000 bail for causing harm to three persons
The Juaso Circuit Court has granted a GH¢100,000.00 bail to a trader for inflicting multiple knife wounds on three persons at Esaase in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Daniel Effah, 23, is still in police custody for failure to meet the bail conditions, including three sureties, two of which must be justified with landed property worth GH¢100,000.00.
He has pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the court, presided over by Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, on January 25.
Detective Chief Inspector Princeton Peasah Darkwah, prosecuting, told the court that the victims, Michael Osei, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Yaw Agyei were residents of Esaase.
He said on June 24, 2021, the accused, together with the victims, who were friends, attended a wake-keeping at Esaase at about 2130 hours.
During the wake-keeping, the accused spotted a lady who happened to be the girlfriend of one Evans Obeng, a witness in the case, and decided to engage her in a conversation.
Obeng, upon seeing the accused talking with his girlfriend, confronted him, which resulted in a scuffle.
Osei, one of the victims, rushed to the scene in an attempt to separate the two men but the accused pulled a knife from his waist bag and stabbed him (Osei) in the lower abdomen, causing his intestines to gush out.
According to the prosecutor, Agyei and Antwi Boasiako also rushed in to rescue Osei but the accused slashed the right thigh of Agyei and inflicted other bodily injuries on him, in addition to slashing the left arm, breast and chest of Antwi Boasiako.
Two of the victims who fell unconscious were rushed to the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital where they were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for two weeks.
The accused fled the scene and went into hiding but the case was reported to the Peminase Police who followed up to the crime scene and retrieved the cover of the knife used by the accused.
The Police, however, picked him up from his hideout at Praaso on December 28 following a tip-off.
Prosecution said the accused identified the cover of the knife as the one he used in committing the crime in his caution statement.
