Make deliberate efforts to get to know your neighbours – Crime Officer
Superintendent Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, the Tema Regional Crime Officer, has underlined the need for them to make deliberate efforts get to know who their neighbours are – interact among themselves.
He said this was the way to go, to enable them to easily identify any intruder or stranger in their neighbourhood.
Supt Otuo Acheampong, who made the call at the ‘end of month stakeholder engagement’ organized by the Ghana News Agency’s Tema Regional Office, advised against people living in complete isolation in their communities.
He warned that if they did that they could be opening themselves up for attack by criminals.
He called for people to be bold to flag up criminals to aid the crime fight, saying, everybody must accept to have a part to play to keep the society safe, and this entailed, providing useful leads that would enable the police to stay ahead of those who had chosen to live outside the law.
He encouraged the formation of Neighbourhood Watch Committees to help keep away.
He urged residents of the region to also install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in their homes and other security gadgets to help complement the work the police were doing to provide security for the people.
Mr. Francis Ameyibor, Ghana News Agency Tema Regional Manager, cautioned against people rushing to crime scenes during emergency situations, to take pictures with mobile phones and other devices, saying that could be risky.
He said “you must live to tell a good story but if you perish as a result of getting too close to the unfolding events, you become part of the casualty statistics”.
