Two remanded over robbery, rape
An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two persons into prison custody over alleged robbery.
In addition, Mohammed Hamudu, has been charged for assault and rape.
He, and one Abubakar Latif, have been charged with conspiracy.
Latif is also facing a charge of abetment of crime.
They have denied the charges and will make their next appearance on February 21, 2022.
Police Inspector Jonas Larweh told the Court that the three female complainants, names withheld, were self-employed women residing at Borla Top near Timber Market Accra.
Hamudu and Latif are scrap dealers residing in the same neighborhood.
The prosecution said on December 30, 2021, about 10:30 hours, the Dagomba Chief of the neighborhood allegedly mobilised Hamudu, Latif and five other young men now at large and instructed them to attack the complainants in their residence for allegedly engaging in lesbianism.
It said the accused persons and their accomplices allegedly arrested and escorted the complainants to the Chief’s palace.
The prosecution said upon arrival at the palace, the Chief demanded that each complainant paid GH¢300.00 for allegedly engaging in lesbianism but they refused to pay.
It said the Chief allegedly ordered the accused persons and their accomplices to beat up and have sexual intercourse with the complainants.
The prosecution said quickly, Hamudu and his five accomplices “shared the complainants” amongst themselves and had sexual intercourse with them.
It said while Hamudu and the five others now at large were having sexual intercourse with the complainants in a room, Latif who posed as a security man was guarding the door to prevent any attack from friends of the complainants.
The prosecution said after Hamudu and his five accomplices succeeded in raping the complainants, they later escorted them to the Chief’s palace.
The Court heard that the Dagomba Chief again instructed that Hamudu and his five accomplices, including Latif, brought him an Hp Laptop computer, two iPhones, one Samsung mobile phone and, GH¢2,250.00 from the complainants’ room.
The prosecution said same day, the complainants reported the case to the Police and on January 2, 2022, Hamudu and Latif were apprehended but their accomplices managed to escape.
