Health workers to withdraw services from July 28

The Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Health Services Workers’ Union of TUC and Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association have threatened to withdraw their services from July 28, 2022, over Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

The four Associations, in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the decision followed their inability to receive “favourable” response from government on the request for COLA by Organised Labour, which they were part of.

“We had hoped that the meeting convened by Government with Organised Labour on July 12, 2022, would have resolved the issue but the meeting failed to achieve its objective.

“We, therefore, serve notice to government as an employer that if by July 22, 2022, the negotiations on COLA are not completed, the aforementioned health sector unions will have no other choice than to embark on a series of actions as spelt out below which will in no doubt disturb the industrial harmony within the health sector,” the statement said.

The actions include wearing of red arm/wrist bands in all health facilities from July 25 to 27, 2022, withdrawal of Out-Patient Department (OPD) Services from July 28 to 31, 2022, and withdrawal of OPD and In-patient services on August 1, 2022.
