Ashanti Regional Director of National Service suspended over confrontation with nurse
The Management of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has suspended Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah, its Ashanti Regional Director, with immediate effect, to allow for investigations over his alleged verbal abuse of a nurse at the Manhyia Government Hospital, Kumasi.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held by the Management of the Scheme on Wednesday, November 30.
This was announced in a statement issued by the Scheme, and signed by Mr. Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, the acting Director in-charge of Corporate Affairs.
Following an audio recording of an incident at the hospital, which was published in the media, on Tuesday, Mr Opoku-Mensah has been accused of denigrating the nurse and her profession in defence of her daughter, a junior doctor at the facility.
The nurse and the doctor allegedly had a conflict over a professional decision regarding a patient at the hospital.
Mr Opoku-Mensah has since apologised for his behaviour, while the Ghana Registered Nurses Association has called for his dismissal.
