Volta NDC condemns Gbi Godenu incident, calls for compensation for victims
Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the Party condemns the shooting and killing of two people in a clash between residents of Gbi Godenu and the Police.
He said, “this is a clear breach of security situation.”
One person is said to be receiving treatment for injuries received after the Police vehicle knocked him down on Wednesday over alleged contraband while the vehicle was set ablaze.
Mr Gunu speaking to the Ghana News Agency when the Party commiserated with families of the deceased and victims, called on the government and the police administration to compensate the families.
He said the Party also wished those injured a speedy recovery adding that “these lives lost cannot be replaced.”
Mr Gunu said the Party also called for an independent inquiry into the incident and those found culpable be brought to book.
He noted that the incident was one which could be avoided since civilians remained partners to the police in fighting prevention and management and vice versa.
A statement from the Ghana Police Service confirmed that, “two people lost their lives in the violence and the motor rider who sustained injury during the accident was currently receiving medical attention.
It said 12 people had so far been arrested, and one Bruni pistol retrieved.
