High Court dismisses NDC’s injunction against Electoral Commission

An Accra High Court has dismissed an application by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi Central Constituency, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, against the Electoral Commission (EC).

The application, filed on October 17, 2024, sought to prevent the EC from printing ballot papers and the notice of poll for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

The court upheld the EC’s decision, stating that its refusal to recognize Madam Cudjoe as the duly elected NDC Parliamentary candidate was in compliance with the High Court’s pending orders from Sekondi dated May 31, 2024.

The court emphasized that acknowledging her would constitute contempt of those pending orders.

The substantive action was also dismissed as duplicative and an abuse of the court’s processes. The ruling cleared the Electoral Commission to continue its preparations for the parliamentary elections in the Amenfi Central Constituency.
