US tariffs are plunging the world into an "open trade war," the president of a German trade association said on Thursday, hours after US President Donald Trump's announcement of blanket 10% customs duties on all imports.

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has expressed worry over the introduction of a baseline 10 percent tariff on exports from Ghana and other countries to the United States of America. 

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to eradicating illegal small-scale mining, vowing to use every lawful means to end the menace. 

The government owes Zoomlion Ghana Limited GH¢1.2 billion covering services provided over the last two years.

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested eleven persons suspected to be involved in illegal mining (galemsey) activities along the Bonsa River bank in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipility of the Western Region.  

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) has urged immediate action to curb illegal mining (galamsey) and promote sustainable resource management.
