Essien handed first Madrid call-up against Granada

Ghanaian international, Michael Essien joined Spanish side Real Madrid on the transfer deadline August 31, 2012 from Chelsea and already the midfielder has been handed his first call up.

Essien’s new coach Jose Mourinho has added him to the 20-man Madrid side that will play Granada today Sunday in the La Liga.

“The Ghanaian entered the Portuguese coach’s list of 20 players for the third-day game. Jose Mourinho summoned 20 players to take on the match corresponding to the third day of the League against Granada. Michael Essien is the big news item in the list of the Real Madrid coach,” Real Madrid said on its website.

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Adán, Pacheco

Defence: Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Albiol, Pepe, Arbeloa y Varane.

Midfielders: Özil, Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Essien, Modric, Callejón, Di María and Kaká.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuaín.
