Tigo supports Africa’s social entrepreneurs to improve children’s lives
African mobile operator Tigo and a non-profit organization known as Reach for Change have partnered to improve the lives of children in Africa through a social entrepreneurship project.
The programme, according to Tigo invites people in all of the African countries where it operates to present innovative ideas for improving the lives of children.
“The most entrepreneurial candidates with the strongest and most promising ideas will be invited to join a three year incubator programme where they will work on transforming their ideas into sustainable ventures,” Tigo said in a statement September 4, 2012.
The entrepreneurs chosen to join the incubator will receive salary funding as well as mentoring and professional advice from senior employees of Tigo, it added.
A pilot of the programme is already ongoing in Ghana and according to Tigo it has reached more than 140,000 children.
CEO of Millicom International, operator of Tigo, Mikael Grahne said “the programme with Reach for Change helps us to understand burning social issues affecting the lives of children and gives us a unique opportunity to work hands-on, together with local talent, to address them.”
Thrilled by this opportunity, Sara Damber, CEO, Reach for Change, hoped to improve the lives of children in Africa on a large scale together with Tigo.
