Ghana, MCC hold talks to fast-track 2nd MCA compact

The Government of Ghana on Wednesday held talks in Accra with a high powered delegation of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to speed up modalities for the second compact of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA).

Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur led the Ghana side, which included Dr Joe Oteng Adjei, Minister of Energy; and the MCC side by its Deputy Vice President Jonathan Bloom.

Ghana received $547 million under the first compact and the country is due to receive another amount which the government has earmarked for the energy sector, but no amount has so far been reached for the second compact.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur expressed appreciation to the US Government for the facility, which is aimed at addressing poverty reduction.

He said the Government hoped to access the second compact soon.

Mr Bloom said his team was in  Ghana to see how best to accelerate the processes.
