Police arrests three for second-hand container theft
The Accra Regional Police Command on Friday arrested three persons for unlawfully diverting of forty-footer container of used clothing to their hide out in Gbawe last stop, near Accra.
The Suspects are Hamza Yakubu, aged 26, Iddrisu Dauda, aged 27 and Amadu Shaibu, aged 28.
DCOP Patrick Timbilla, Greater Accra Regional Commander, briefing the press in Accra, said on September 3, 2012 at 6:00, the complainant who is a Businessman cleared a forty-foot container stuffed with used clothing, bags, toys and belts from the Tema Harbour through his agent Barfi.
According to Mr Timbillah, the complainant said he engaged the services of one Musah Mustapha, driver in-charge of DAF 95 Articulator Truck with registration Number AS 3441 Z to cart the goods to Kantomanto, the hub of second-hand goods in Accra.
He noted that Mr Musa ended up diverting the goods to an unknown destination and on September 12, 2012 at about 15:00 hours, based on Police intelligence, some of the goods were located in the store of Seth Kwarteng, aged 45 years, who also deals in used clothing at Kantamanto .
Mr Timbillah said when Mr Kwarteng was questioned, he denied knowledge of the theft and mentioned one Abu as the person who brought the goods to his store for sale.
He stressed that further Police intelligence disclosed that suspect, Seth Kwarteng and Abu ,who are now at large, took the goods to a warehouse at Gbawe C.P last stop House number 110, and were baling them.
Mr Timbillah said upon inspection at the warehouse, the Police detected a lot of used clothing bales with tags ‘Akompa’ and assorted used clothing yet to be baled.
He said the suspects, all accomplices to Seth Kwarteng, are in the Police custody.
