Judges, lawyers urged to fast-track chieftaincy cases
Osahene Okatakyi Busumakura III, Takoradiman-hene, has called on judges and lawyers to help speed-up the adjudication of cases involving traditional authorities in order to save resources and time for development.
“Much as the rule of rule of law must prevail, I wish to appeal to you… to ensure that there is an end to litigation, especially after the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court, has given final judgments”.
Osahene Katakyi made the call when he and his elders hosted members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to a cocktail at Takoradi as part of the GBA’s activities to mark a five-day annual general conference.
The conference is being held on the theme: “The Role of the Legal Profession in the Electoral Process”.
Osahene Katakyi Busumakura noted that chieftaincy, especially in the Western Region, had taken a negative trend because chiefs spent most of their time and resources fighting and challenging their positions.
He hoped the members of the Bar would give a thought to the impact of their profession on the stability and development of traditional societies.
“Your work as upholders of the faith in the rule of law is cut out for you, your efforts as apostles of justice, ultimately result in the rule of law prevailing eventually”.
Mr Frank William Beecham, National President, GBA, said members, respecting culture deemed it fit to inform the traditional landlord of their presence in the oil city.
