Ghana set for 8th Africa Cycling Championship
The National Cycling Team, will from November 6th-11th, 2012, make an appearance in this year’s Africa Cycling Championships in Burkina Faso.
Ghana will send a total of 20 cyclists including 12 males and eight females to compete in the Individual Time Trial, Team Time Trial and the Road Race.
A statement from the Ghana Cycling Association (GCA) said,the Female Team will be testing their fastness and power for the first time against highly ranked countries like Nigeria, South Africa and Cote D’ Ivoire.
According to the statement, the federation has commenced preparations for the event, with the selected cyclists expected to commence residential camping ahead of the event in Tamale, to acclimatize before leaving for Burkina Faso.
The statement said, Confederation of African Cycling (CAC), has therefore appointed Ghana’s Technical Head –Shaaban Mohammed as one of the leading Commissioners for the Championships.
It said Shaaban, who secured his level two coaching course in Egypt under the scholarship of CAC was also appointed a commissioner at the All Africa Games in Maputo.
It would be recalled participated in the event, last two years in Rwanda under the sponsorship of Promasidor GH Ltd, with the likes of Aminu Mohammed Osman, Nuru Pardie Alhassan, Henry Tetteh Djangmah and Samuel Anim representing the nation.
