Teachers’ arrears to be paid end of September – GNAT
All arrears of teachers in connection with the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) had been paid.
Mr John Gyimah Amamoo, the newly posted Eastern Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), disclosed this in Koforidua on Thursday at his maiden meeting with teachers in the New Juaben Municipality.
He appealed to the teachers not to join any group of workers who would embark on strike action in connection with the category “B” allowances related to the Single Spine Salary Structure.
Mr Amamoo explained that GNAT had already prepared for that allowance and the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) had said the issue would be tackled when all public service institutions had been rolled unto the Structure.
He urged the teachers to take advantage of all the services that had been placed at their advantage by GNAT like the teachers fund and other related services to better their lot and called on those with problems with their promotion, salaries and related issues to give their local GNAT branches copies of the letters they sent to the Ghana Education Service (GES) so that GNAT could also follow up on their behalf.
He assured them of his determination to work hard to ensure that the Eastern Regional branch of GNAT becomes one of the best organized branches in the country and urged them to close their ranks.
Ms Docia Abban, New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, advised teachers to use dialogue in resolving issues with the GES to avoid waste of resources.
She said some teachers who had been promoted have not been placed on their new salaries because the District Offices of the GES do not have their personal files to attach their relevant documents needed to process their letters.
Miss Abban cautioned teachers to guard against having amorous relationships with their pupils and warned that any teacher caught in that unacceptable practice would not be spared.
Mr George Aboagye, the Municipal GNAT Secretary, announced that this year’s teachers’ day in the Municipality would be celebrated on October 04, at Jumapo, a suburb of Koforidua.
He said as part of the celebration, there would be a health talk, health screening, including sporting activities and urged all teachers in the Municipality to participate in the celebrations.
