Legon Fashion Week launched

Beyongsoft Ghana Limited, a multimedia company, in collaboration with Mensah Sarbah Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, on Saturday launched the Legon Fashion Week.

The event, which is set for 17-21 October will be characterized by an exhibition, a black carpet event, aimed at promoting black fashion, a seminar for young and upcoming fashion designers, an extravaganza fashion show and a party to be hosted by Citizen Kofi, an event management.

Mr Robert Amoafo, Business Executive of Beyondsoft, said the Ghanaian fashion industry, currently, is made up of new trends of Ghanaian ideas and fashions.

He said some of these ideas have gained prominence among young fashion lovers, and that “We are sure to identify one or two Ghanaian fabric shoes, bags, shirts or wallets at work, in school, at home and even at the night clubs.”

Mr Amoafo said fashion design in Ghana years ago was attributed to elderly people and a certain class of the Ghanaian society but the trend has changed.

He said the Legon Fashion Week is an annual convocation of young and old fashion designers, professional and wan-a-be models, fashion brands and fashion lovers.

Mr Amoafo said the event was also aimed at unveiling talents and selling brands.

He said: “In our bid to unveil new talents, Legon Fashion Week is set to create a platform for young and upcoming fashion designers and models to show what they have learned from legends in the industry and build partnerships, aimed at growing the Ghanaian fashion industry into an empire”.

Mr Amoafo said the event would give an opportunity to people to sell new brands and already existing brands and widen their markets to fashion lovers and Ghanaian youth, who are prime in the fashion industry.

“We hope to touch lives by sharing what we gain from this event with the needy in our society. Beyondsoft Ghana Limited in collaboration with its partners will initiate a project which will address a worrying situation in our Ghanaian society today”.

Mr Edward Tuttor, President of Mensah Sarbah Hall, said “Mensah Sarbah Hall is happy to be part of this event.”

Ms Anne-Selma Barber, Event Mnager of Citizen Kofi, said the company represents a tailored entertainment and was into empowering the youth in the country.
