Government-Zoom Alliance accelerate sanitation programmes

Mr George Aguadze, Tema Zonal Manager of the Zoomlion Ghana Limited has given the assurance that the collaboration between government and Zoom Alliance, a subsidiary of his outfit would make positive impact.

He said the programme, which was inaugurated a couple of weeks by President John Dramani Mahama, was not only ridding the cities off the filth, but was also creating massive awareness and consciousness among people, who hitherto were not interested in sanitation issues.

Mr Aguadze, who gave this assurance during a clean-up exercise to desilt choked gutters and gather all the garbage along the principal streets of Tema and Ashaiman, said “many more people now come out to sweep round their houses than before.”

The weekly clean-up exercise throughout the country was the innovation by President Mahama, who inaugurated the national sanitation Task Force, which was replicated in all the regions and districts throughout the country.

Under the three month programme, more than 16,000 individuals had been engaged nationwide, while Zoom Alliance was supporting government with equipment and other logistics to enhance the success of the programme.

Various Task forces are expected to carry out weekly clean-up exercises to keep their surroundings clean and educate others to participate in the exercise as it could promote healthy lives.

The Zonal Manager said his outfit would continue with the weekly clean-up programme in the event that government pulled out after the three-month period to sustain the consciousness of the people on sanitation issues.

Mr George Acheampong, Tema District Supervisor of Operations, said response in Tema was encouraging and hoped that momentum would be maintained in the coming weeks.
