AUCC, Indian university open online distance education
The African University College of Communications (AUCC) in collaboration with AVAGMAH Online School of Bharathidasan University, India, has launched an online distance education for professionals and people who cannot always be in the classroom for lectures.
The programmes are designed to deliver winning results and gain a competitive edge in the challenging business environment in Ghana today.
Addressing the press during the launch on Wednesday, Mr Kojo Yankah, Director and Founder, AUCC, said the online distance education, which would begin in January 2013, would offer post-graduate, undergraduate and certificate courses.
He noted that courses had been designed to suit especially those in the working class and professionals who had been restricted due to lack of time or those who could not afford to travel outside Ghana for further education.
“The AVAGMAH and AUCC pioneering association aims to bring world class education and deliver it to the working professional either to their office desks or to the confines of their homes via a blended model of extensive online programmes and periodic contact classroom sessions,” he said.
Courses to be offered include Media and Entertainment, Banking and Finance, International Business, Sales and Marketing, Human Resource Management, Infrastructure Management, Healthcare Management, Operations Management and Information Technology.
He noted that students in addition to interactive e-learning sessions would have access to a digital library containing a repertoire of rich content, live classroom contact at the AUCC campus, dedicated learner support and study materials.
Mr Yankah expressed satisfaction about the collaboration as it would afford thousands of Ghanaians the opportunity to access higher learning from an Indian University of international repute.
Mr K.S Karthik, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, AVAGMAH Online School, said courses offered by the school had been designed keeping in mind the needs of the organizations and individuals for developing the much needed skills and competence for excellence.
He said AVAGMAH courses had received accreditation from institutions such as the Jack Welch Management Institute (USA), Harvard Business Publishing (USA), Institute of Management and Technology Centre for Distance Learning in India.
He said currently, over 6,000 professionals from prominent organizations in the world were studying with AVAGMAH.
Dr Augustina Amakye, Director, School of Distance Learning, AUCC, said the university would continue to put in place the needed measures that would make it realize its vision of becoming the best centre for Journalism, Communications, Information and Communication Technology, and Business Management in Africa.
“This would also provide opportunities for advanced learning and professional and practical application for the rapid growth and development of the African continen,t” she said.
