Parliament reconvenes to consider various loan agreements

Members of Parliament would be scrutinizing various loan agreement including an  eight million Euro facility to finance the enhancement of the nation-wide water network management by the Ghana Water Company Limited as the House reconvenes today Monday, October 22.

Other loan agreements to be tabled before the House are a 43, 784,093.97 pound facility for the redevelopment of the Ghana Police Hospital and a $26.5 million loan agreement meant as additional funding for the furniture, fixtures and fittings for the completion of the conversion of the State House (Job 600) into offices for the MPs.

It is expected that various bills, such as the Internal Revenue (Tax Amnesty) 2011 and the Health Regulatory Bodies 2010 bills will be passed into law before the MPs take a break to take part in the 2012 General Elections in December 7.

Although the House is sitting today, the MPs are yet to report to parliament in their numbers to conduct business.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning is expected to present to the House for debate and scrutiny various Papers containing loan agreements including that on a request for a waiver of taxes and duties on equipment and materials to be imported or purchased locally amounting to 1,644,201.00 Euros for the implementation of a rural fibre optic and data centre among others.
