59 candidates contest for parliamentary seats in Upper West
Fifty-nine candidates including five women are vying for the eleven Parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Party (NDP) have fielded candidates in all the eleven constituencies in the region while the People’ Progressive Party (PPP) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) fielded eight candidates each.
A document released to the media the Upper West Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission in Wa showed that the Convention People’s Party (CPP) is contesting four seats, the United Renaissance party (URP) has one candidate with the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) registering one candidate while four Independent candidates are contesting in Jirapa, Lambussie/Karni, Lawra and Sissala East constituencies.
Out of the five women contestants, three of them are campaigning to represent the Jirapa constituency which is currently being held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and looks likely to retain it.
Jirapa, Lambussie/Karni and Sissala East constituencies recorded the largest number of seven candidates each while the least number of three candidates are vying for the Nandom seat.
