International Atomic Energy Agency recommends €67.4m budget for technical cooperation in 2013

The Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee (TACC) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recommended to its Board to approve a €67.4 million budget for next year 2013.

The Committee met to discuss the Technical Cooperation budget for next year and made the recommendation, the IAEA said in a statement November 27, 2012.

“The Committee has recommended that the €67.4 million budget for 2013 be approved by the IAEA Board of Governors,” it said.

The agency said there are currently more than 1,200 active technical cooperation projects.

In a speech delivered on the opening day of the TACC meeting in Vienna, Kwaku Aning, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, said “We will soon enter the second year of the two year programme cycle. Safety and security remains the largest area of activity, followed by food and agriculture and then health and nutrition.”

The next programme cycle for 2014-2015 is being developed and will be presented for approval in 2013, the IAEA indicated.

Officials say the TACC meeting will be followed by the IAEA Board of Governors due to start on Thursday November 29, 2012.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will open the meeting of the 35-nation Board of Governors with an introductory statement.
