Ghana to introduce life insurance policy for fishermen

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday gave the assurance that government would in the next four years introduce life insurance policy for all the fishermen in the country.

The facility, he said, would serve as cover for the families of fisherfolk in times of serious disasters to the fishermen.

President John Dramani Mahama announced this when he addressed a rally at Komenda and Elmina as part of his two-day campaign tour of the Central Region.

The President also addressed similar rallies at Kotokruba Market, Jukwa, Twifo Hemang, Twifo Praso, University of Cape Coast and the Cape Coast Polytechnic.

President Mahama said the introduction of the life insurance policy was a novelty that was to make the fishermen and families comfortable in times of death and other natural disasters.

The President said government would also institute a vessel tracking system, where the navy boats would track down people carrying out nefarious activities at the high seas, and to expose the fishermen engaged in criminal activities at the coastal areas of the country.

He announced that government would also revamp the Komenda Sugar factory in the next four years, which would create many jobs for Ghanaians.

President Mahama said the refurbishing of the factory would also fit into government’s policy to reduce the importation of basic needs and create job opportunities for the teeming youth in the country in the coming years.

The President also promised to complete all the development projects initiated by late President John Evans Atta Mills and initiate more for the betterment of Ghana and Ghanaians in succeeding years.

He appealed to party supporters to eschew insults and other negative tendencies that could undermine the integrity and successful elections of the country.
