EPA introduces measures to address pesticide spillage in Kumasi
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and AngloGold Ashanti has put measures to contain the pesticide spillage in Kumasi Kwadaso.
The Agency said the chemical spill was being covered with thick plastic sheets to contain the smell and that saw dust had also been used to stop any further spillage.
The Agency said it had a call from Kumark Trading Enterprise on Wednesday about the deterioration of some Dimethoate in storage at a warehouse at Kumasi where the whole area was engulfed with the scent of the chemical Dimethoate.
A press release issued from the Public Affairs Department of EPA and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday said Anglo Gold Ashanti had distributed personal protective equipments to workers and volunteers at the site.
It said if there was any swallowing of the chemical quickly, call the poison centre at the Ministry of Health on 030238626 or 0302243552 for first aid and in case of inhalation quickly move the person to fresh air if the person is not breathing or call NADMO ON 70221 for assistance.
