Upper West Regional Minister shot, flown to Accra for medicals
Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, the Upper West Regional Minister who sustained gun-shot wounds in a shooting incident on the Fielmua-Gwollu road, has been flown to Accra for further treatment
The Regional Minister was rushed to the Wa Regional Hospital after he was shot by unknown assailants near Kwalla on the Fielmua/ Gwollu road in the early hours Friday.
Alhaji Sulemana, who won the Sissala West seat in the recent Parliamentary election, was on a tour of the constituency to thank the people forvoting for him when the incident occurred
Mr. Tanko Bagbara, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council who spoke to the Minister on phone after hearing of the incident told the GNA that he was shot at the back.
According to him, the assailants who wore military camouflage blocked the road before firing shots at the Minister’s convoy.
He said they escaped into the bush when the Minister’s body guard returned fire.
He was immediately sent to the theatre on arrival at Wa hospital.
Mr. Kale Cesar the Deputy Upper West regional Minister told the Ghana News Agency that an armed robbery operation was already going on at the spot when the Regional Minister and his convoy got there.
He described the assailants who numbered eight as criminals from the Burkina Faso side of the border.
