Police Hospital delivers 21 Christmas babies

A total of 21 children; comprising12 boys and nine girls were delivered at the Police Hospital in Accra during the Christmas festivities.

Mrs Grace Herman, Chief Superintendent of Police and Officer In-Charge of the Maternity Unit of the Police Hospital disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.

Mrs Herman gave the break down as two males and three females  delivered on the eve of Christmas, while on Christmas day seven males and four females were delivered.

She said the Hospital also recorded the birth of three males and two females on Boxing Day.

According to Chief Superintendent Herman, out of all the 21 deliveries, only one male was delivered through caesarian section on Boxing Day.

She advised women in the reproductive age to visit clinics regularly for check-up once they  missed their normal monthly periods.

She urged expectant mothers to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) so that their  bills could be covered by the NHIS during delivery.

Chief Superintendent Herman was full of praise for the NHIS for removing the bottlenecks of having to detain mothers and their babies after deliveries in the past because of their in ability to pay for their medical bills.

Miss Juliana Obeng, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Public Relations Officer of the Hospital appealed to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), philanthropists and corporate entities to adopt the Maternity and Children’s Wards of the Hospital and renovate them regularly.

She also pleaded with government, NGOs and corporate organizations to help provide the facility with an incubator.
