ARA Libertad ship enters Argentina after leaving Ghana

ARA Fragata LibertadAfter leaving the shores of Ghana, ARA Libertad finally entered Argentine waters January 7, 2013.

The navy ship was detained in Ghana for over two months due to a debt owed by Argentina to a private US firm, NML Capital. But a UN Tribunal in December 2012 ordered Ghana to release the frigate.

The ship which docked at the Tema port during the seizure left Ghana December 19, 2012 and it is currently sailing southwestward of Argentina at 7.5 knots.

It is expected to arrive at the Mar del Plata navy base, 400 km southeast of Buenos Aires, Wednesday, reports the Xinhua News Agency.

The vessel will be received in a ceremony to be attended by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli, according to the Buenos Aires Herald.

Argentina had earlier on indicated that the ship will dock at its capital by January 9, 2013.
