Two men before Cape Coast Court for assault

law-and-justiceKobina Jah, and Kojo Sam both fishermen and residents of Cape Coast were on Monday granted a bail of GH¢300 by a Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court for assault and causing damage.

The two pleaded not guilty and the case had been adjourned till Monday, January 28.

A bench warrant had been issued for the arrest of a third suspect, one Ankomah who failed to appear before the court when summoned.

Police Inspector Samuel Amoako told the court, presided over by Ms Mercy Adei Kotei that the complainant, Mr Ekow Awortwe, a fisherman and a member of the Cape Coast premix committee and his wife, Mrs Aba Appiawa on Wednesday, 26 December, 2012, boarded a taxi from Amissakyir to Amamoma.

He said when the driver got to Chapel Square, he saw Jah and Sam with another friend from a distance chatting in the middle of the road.

Inspector Amoako said the driver hooted a horn to signal them to give way but accused persons who appeared to be tipsy refused and instead rained insults on them.

The complainant’s wife decided to approach the accused persons to ask them to give them way but the accused persons attacked her aggressively with insults and man-handled her.

Inspector Amoako said the complainant then came out of the taxi to rescue his wife but Jah and Sam together with Ankomah accused him for allegedly being “too known” and putting up deviant behavior at the premix distribution center and therefore swore to teach him a lesson.

He said they attacked and assaulted him and in the process Jah hit the complainant’s mouth with an object leaving a deep cut on his upper lip but passers by intervened and separated the ensuing scuffle.

Inspector Amoako said the complainant reported the case to the police and a police medical report from was issued to him whilst the three were issued with a court summons.
