Agya Koo left Ghana before warrant got to airport immigration officials – GIS
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has refuted claims that Kofi Adu aka Agyakoo managed to beat immigration officials at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and travelled to Abu Dhabi though a warrant had been issued for his arrest for defrauding an individual of GH¢3,800 by false pretence.
Mr. Acoi Francis Palmdeti, Head of Public Affairs, GIS, told the GNA in a statement on Friday that the story was inaccurate and misrepresentation of facts.
Mr. Palmdeti said the attention of the GIS had been drawn to a front page story in the Daily Graphic of Friday January 18, 2013 with the caption “Agyakoo is Hot” and wished to correct a misrepresentation of the facts regarding how the comedian Kofi Adu travelled out of the country.
He noted that documentary evidence from the Immigration Control at KIA indicated the said warrant from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service was received at 5:30 pm whiles the suspect left the country on Emirates Airlines at 4:36 pm.
According to Mr. Palmdeti, that implied the suspect had departed one hour before the warrant was handed over to the GIS/KIA.
“It is therefore incorrect to suggest that the said suspect managed to beat Immigration at the Kotoka International Airport,” he emphasized.
Mr. Palmdeti said the GIS re-echoed its commitment to ensuring that the mandate of securing Ghana’s borders was vigorously enforced.
Daily Graphic on Friday, January 18, on its front page captioned a story ‘’Agya Koo is Hot’’ purporting the said suspect managed to beat immigration officials at the KIA and travelled Abu Dhabi to watch the friendly football match between Ghana and Tunisia.
