After enjoying a steady growth since the start of commercial operations in Ghana during the year 2012, Glo has suffered its first fall in the telecoms subscriber base market in the country.
The mobile operator lost 47,399 SIM subscribers in November 2012, according to the latest mobile market share figures from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Glo’s subscriber base stands at 1,578,446, representing 6.16 % of the total market share as at November 31, 2012. In October 2012, it had 1,625,845 subscribers.
Glo, the last entrant is Ghana’s fifth largest telecoms company in terms of subscriber base, overtaking Expresso. Its first subscriber base was captured by the NCA from May 2012 where it had 468,508 subscribers representing 2% of the total market share.
The total mobile subscriber base in Ghana as at November, 2012 stood at 25,344,745, the NCA says with MTN recording a marginal increase of 11,615,801 subscriber base representing 45.33% of total market share.
Vodafone’s subscriber base also increased to 5,175,377 representing 20.20 % while Airtel increased its subscriber base to 3,132,615 representing 12.23% of the total market share.
However Tigo’s numbers dipped slightly, closing at 3,673,934 chalking 14.34 %.
Expresso though, decreased its subscriber base to 168,572.The 168,572 represents 0.66 % of the total market share, the NCA figures indicated.
