Western Region to benefit from small town water project
To ease the perennial water crisis in some parts of the Western Region, government together with the World Bank is to provide sixteen communities with small town water systems.
An amount of GH¢715,000.00 is expected to be spent on the project which will take three months to be completed.
Delivering a short address at the commissioning of the project at Nsueam, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tarkwa Nsueam, Mrs. Christina Kobinah said apart from the two communities that had been selected for the project, the Assembly would also benefit from the construction of twenty additional boreholes across the Municipality.
The project aims to expand water and sanitation in rural and small town communities as well as to strengthen the local capacity to manage rural and small town water and sanitation facilities.
The MCE said to ensure that the project is completed on time, the chiefs and members of the communities should provide maximum support to the contractors.
Mrs. Kobinah said as the beneficiary communities they were expected to negotiate on how much to pay for usage and management of the project. She appealed to the the managers of the facility to ensure regular and proper maintenance at all time.
The Western Regional Officer for water and sanitation, Mr. Joseph Jonah said the project would take place in additional five regions, adding that the entire project would last for five years across the country.
