Work on Western Region energy project resumes after year-long suspension
Site clearing of the Dominli enclave in the Western Region has resumed for the construction of two thermal plants after a year’s suspension of work.
The project was suspended early last year when workers were chased out from the site by farmers of the enclave in protest against unpaid compensation.
Mr Charles Victor Kattah, Surveyor of Radan Engineering Limited, told the GNA that clearing resumed in December last year and so far about 60 percent work had been done on the site of VRA Township, borehole, power enclave sub-station and hydro survey for mini-harbour.
He said the delay in clearing the site was due to agitation by some farmers who insisted that until they had heard from their counsel their crop should not be touched despite the ongoing payment of crop compensation.
Mr Kattah said others also claimed that even though their crops had been coubnted they were not given their “Form F” and would not sacrifice their crops for the project.
He said the remaining 40 percent of the portion of the land would be cleared any moment when a way is found for the bulldozer to cross over a stream in the area to the other side of the project site.
The plant would enable the VRA to use natural gas from the Jubilee Field to generate 50 megawatts of electricity.
