Samsung, Chelsea FC unveil new soccer project for African children

Samsung Electronics Company Limited on Tuesday kick-started a soccer initiative dubbed “Dream the Blues” campaign to provide a once-in-a-life-time football experience for children between ages of eight to 13 years.

The campaign, which is in partnership with Chelsea Football Club, would serve as a platform to encourage football-loving children to achieve and grow their dreams.

It is expected to take place eight countries across four continents with Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa standing in for the African continent.

Speaking at the Opening ceremony in Accra, Mr Steve Winnett, a Chelsea Coach, said the initiative was not to search for best players but a football-loving kid who is passionate and enthusiastic about football.

Mr Richard Nunekpeku, Marketing Manager for Consumer Electronics of Samsung, advised the children to learn as much as they could to make their parents and the country proud.

“As an inspirational brand, we are very proud to be associated with our young ones and we hope that the best two children who perform excellently will get the opportunity to go to Chelsea and interact with other equally excellent sports youth”, he said.

The initiative is an expansion of the Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp programme which has already benefited 5, 000 youth across the globe since its inception in 2007.

About 180 children have recruited in Ghana to camp for two days at the Lizzy Sports Complex to undergo extensive training with Chelsea coaches to learn ‘The Chelsea Way’ from the Chelsea Foundation coaches.

The two most passionate children would be selected to go to Stamford Bridge in London to train and meet the players of Chelsea Football Club. They would be accompanied by their parents with all expenses paid.

The final camp would also be an opportunity for participants to build a global friendship through football in an exciting environment.
