CHF signs MoU with 35 communities in Sekondi-Takoradi
Corporate Housing Foundation (CHF) International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), on Thursday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with 35 communities in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to improve community participation in governance.
The MOU formed part of the implementation of the ‘Inclucity Phase two’ project initiated between the CHF and the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA).
Speaking at the signing-on ceremony between the CHF and the communities at Sekondi, the Country’s Director of the CHF International, Mr Alberto Wilde, said the MOU would increase constructive participation of slum residents in governance, inclusive planning and budgeting processes.
It would also increase the capacity of the Assembly to generate revenue for socio-economic development of the metropolis.
Mr Wilde said the second phase of the four-year programme is being implemented in two areas including the Accra Metropolitan and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan assemblies, to educate the citizenry on their rights and responsibilities, as well as their obligation to pay taxes to ensure quality service delivery.
He said the CHF has a special grant of $US2000 dollars for each of the 35 communities selected in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis for the execution of the ‘Inclucity Phase two’ project for community initiatives.
The Country’s Director of the CHF said 12 communities in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis benefited from the grant last year, which enabled them to construct projects such as public places of convenience, mechanized bore holes, urinal facilities, market sheds, sanitation facilities, as well as other social amenities.
He said as part of the implementation of the ‘phase two’ project this year, the CHF in collaboration with COLANDEF would organise capacity building workshops for community based organisations, assembly members, Unit Community members, traditional authorities and opinion leaders in the beneficiary communities.
The Major for Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Captain (Rtd) Anthony Cudjoe, commended the CHF International for the support, especially the Streets Naming and House Numbering project it had promised to fund in the metropolis.
He said the implementation of the ‘Inclucity Phase two’ project would increase revenue generation of the Assembly and enhance development.
