Organized labour major partner in job creation – President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama on Friday gave the assurance that organized labour would continue to play a meaningful role in the creation and expansion of job avenues in the country.
“Organized Labour, therefore, needs not focus on only agitations for better conditions of their members, but should also focus on job creation that would absorb the teeming youth that are leaving school into the job market,” he said.
President Mahama gave this assurance when members of organized labour made up of; Trades Union Congress, Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, Ghana Registered Nurses Association and the Ghana Federation of Labour called on him at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.
The group was at the Flagstaff House to congratulate President Mahama on his victory in the 2012 general election and to discuss issues that would enhance the relations between government and organized labour.
President Mahama said there was a youth bulge as many tertiary and second cycle institutions were turning out more, and appealed to the organized labour to collaborate with government to find workable solutions to labour issues in the country.
He said Ghana could only achieve the middle income status only when there was an effective collaboration between government and other major stakeholders like the organized labour.
Mr Kofi Asamoah, Secretary General of Trades Union Congress gave the assurance that they would collaborate with government on job creation based on mutual trust and respect.
