CAF Confederations Cup: Shaky start for New Edubiase
Confederation Cup campaigners New Edubiase could only manage a lone goal victory over Congolese side Diable Noir of Congo in the first leg of the competition at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Sunday.
Edubiase who are making their maiden appearance in the competition, showed signs of recording a comfortable win in the game in order to render the second leg a mere formality, by scoring first in the 9th minute, but this eventually became the only goal of the game.
The lone goal was through the assistance of Ebenezer Ofori, whose well executed corner kick was connected by Alhassan Nuhu.
After this, were moments of near misses for the Ghanaians, who despite creating decent scoring chances failed to convert them till the close of the half.
Edubiase could have increased the tally in the second half, but Stephen Manu on two occasions blew off perfect scoring chances in the 52nd and 54th minute, whilst keeper Iddrisu Salia’s failed attempt at making a first time grab of a corner kick nearly granted the Congolese the equalizer but he was quick on his feet to block a rebound from Djimbi Loundri in the 60th minute.
Both sides struggled to undo each other, but poor shooting, lack of ideas upfront and good goal keeping denied them the several opportunities.
Edubiase have at hand a tougher task as they are expected to trek to Congo for the second leg in two weeks time.
