Dr. Adenuga Jr gives $1m to Super Eagles of Nigeria
Dr Mike Adenuga Jr, Chairman of Globacom and Africa’s businessman extraordinaire, has splashed a sum of $One million on the victorious Super Eagles of Nigeria for winning the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Dr. Adenuga Jr, announced the package when the team presented the trophy to him in his residence in Johannesburg, South Africa and he subsequently presented a cheque for N160 million ($1 million) to presented Joseph Yobo, captain of the Super Eagles at a short ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Globacom boss said “we are indeed proud of the achievement of the Nigerian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I congratulate the Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, the rest of the coaching crew, the players, the Nigerian Football Federation and the Federal Government for this important victory which has rekindled hope among our people”.
Head coach Stephen Keshie was also presented with a brand new Range Rover SUV and a Toyota Camry car, together with a fully paid accommodation.
He commended Keshi for his commitment, adding that, Keshi has done the nation proud, that is why it is important to reward him.
Yobo on his part said, “I want to thank you very much for this gesture. You made a pledge to us and you have redeemed the pledge.
“We thank you for everything you’ve done for Nigerian football, we thank you for being the number one supporter of the Super Eagles. This financial support you have given to us will go a long way to motivate us to achieve more.”
Stephen Keshi, expressed appreciation to Dr. Adenuga for his support for football across Africa, adding that Super Eagles have henceforth become Dr Adenuga’s children because of all the massive support he has given Nigerian football.
Alhaji Aminu Maigari President of Nigerian Football Federation, expressed appreciation to Dr. Adenuga for the gesture.
“On behalf of the Nigerian football family, I want to thank you most sincerely. This relationship between Globacom and Nigerian football will endure for a long time. You have been very supportive of Nigerian football over the years, sponsoring the league and the national teams.”
Dr. Adenuga’s company, Globacom, supported Ghana and Nigeria national teams with mouth watering sponsorship packages.
Dr. Adenuga, an accomplished businessman and first class manager. He holds the highest national honour for a civilian in Nigeria, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
