New Upper West Minister promises open, transparent administration
Mr Bede Ziedeng, the Upper West Regional Minister, has assured the people of the region that he will strive to run an open, transparent and accountable governance in his quest to implement the Presidents vision for the region.
He appealed for support from Traditional rulers, Religious and opinion leaders as well as the general public to enable him execute the President’s vision of transforming and expanding the economy, creating jobs for the youth and strengthening the capacity of state institutions through transparent and accountable governance.
Mr Ziedeng said this when he paid courtesy calls on the Bishop of the Wa Catholic Diocese, Bishop Paul Bemile, the Chief of Wa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, the Yari Naa, Alhaji Mugtar Tafar, the Chief Imam of Wa and members of the Zongo Community during the first day of his familiarization tour of the region.
Mr Ziedeng, who took over from Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, the former Regional Minister and now Minister for Roads and Highways on Monday as the new Regional Minister, said that no one could run a region successfully without the effective collaboration from other stakeholders.
The tour, he said, was meant to introduce himself as the new Regional Minister and also ask for their prayers, support and stronger collaboration so they could together with the President develop the region to create opportunities for all.
Very Rev. Fr. Cornelus Bayirinoba, who spoke on behalf of Bishop Paul Bemile who was away at Tamale for a function congratulated the Minister on his appointment and reassured him to count on their support anytime there was the need to do so.
He said Mr Ziedeng was a Deputy Regional Minister under the Rawlings regime for eight years and was therefore privy to the good relationship that existed between the office of the Bishop and that of the Regional Minister.
This, he said, must be enhanced to ensure exchange of ideas regarding the development of the region.
He said plans were far advance to establish a Catholic Teacher Training College at Nadowli in the Nadowli-Kaleo District to help address the poor student teacher-ratio which was affecting quality education delivery in the region.
Very Rev. Fr. Bayirinoba prayed that the Good Lord himself would guide and surround him with people who would help him to succeed and not people who would want to seek his downfall.
At the Wa Naa’s Palace, Naa Seidu Braimah, Guli Naa and a Member of Council of State Elect who spoke on behalf of Wa Naa assured the Minister of the support of the Traditional rulers.
He drew the attention of the Minister to the construction of the new Upper West Regional Hospital, maintenance of some non-functional street lights within the Wa Municipality and the construction of a new office accommodation for the Regional Police Command.
He also appealed to him to give priority to the sectors of Agric and Education since majority of the people were farmers.
