NCCE to revive dormant civic clubs
The Asante-Akim South District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has embarked on an exercise to revive all dormant civic education clubs in schools in the area.
This is being done alongside the formation of new ones to assist more students to become conversant with the constitution.
So far, 13 schools had been covered and these include Obogu D/A One and Two, Obogu Presby Junior High School (JHS), Obogu Faith JHS, Obogu Faith Senior High School (SHS) and Juaso D/A JHS.
The others are King David JHS, Juaso Presby JHS, Kingdom JHS, Methodist JHS and God is Able Preparatory School.
Mr Patrick Asare, an Assistant Civic Education Officer, said the goal was to inculcate in students a deep sense of nationalism to live up to their civic responsibilities adding that school children were being targeted because they represented the future of the nation.
“The civic clubs will ensure practical commitment of members to social justice, democracy and equality of all without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion and education,” he said.
Mr Noble Antwi, Headmaster of the God is Able Preparatory School, commended the NCCE for the initiative to make the constitution accessible to students.
