Government asked to encourage formation of cadet corps in SHS

The Gomoa West District Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Private School (GNAPS) has called on the government to encourage second cycle schools, including private ones to establish cadet corps.

This, it said, will help instill discipline and hard work in the students who are the future leaders of the nation.

The Vice-Chairman of the Association, Rev. Anthony Otoo Ankrah made the suggestion at a ceremony at Apam to mark a week-long celebration of Private schools in the district.

The celebration was under the theme “Improving private participation in education to meet national aspirations”.

He said modalities should be worked out to ensure the conscription of qualified cadets into the armed forces.

Rev. Ankrah said due to the developments in the sub-region, involving the “activities of armed militants, terrorists and insurgents, Ghana should not wait to be overtaken by events”.

The Counseling and Guidance coordinator at the Gomoa West district of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Kwesi Coffie, called on students to take their studies seriously to enable them to achieve their aims and objectives.
