Ghanaians must rekindle spirit of independence – Jomoro DCE
Ghanaians have been urged to rekindle their spirit of patriotism, oneness, selflessness and hard work among others that architects the independence of the country envisioned.
These ideals which spurred the attainment of political independence from the colonial masters are still relevant today as it was some 50 years ago.
Mr Sylvester Daddieh, Jomoro District Executive, said this when addressing school children, civil society organisations and the security agencies at this year’s 56th Independence Anniversary parade at Half Assini Senior High School Park.
Mr Daddieh said these ideals should strengthen Ghanaians in their resolve to desperately attempt to catch up with the pace of socio-economic development of other countries in the world.
He said Ghana had chalked some remarkable socio-economic successes since independence but more was needed to be done in respect of job creation and infrastructural development.
He said the challenges would still linger on if the people do not see the country’s development as a shared responsibility towards achieving the desired goal.
Mr Daddieh said it is against this background that the theme for the anniversary celebration; “Partnership and Innovation for Building a New and Better Ghana,” is relevant.
Madam Comfort Ntoni, Assistant Director in-charge of Statistics and Planning in an address read on behalf of the Jomoro District Education Director, said it was the collective responsibility of those in current leadership positions to educate the future ones to be more innovative and thereby help realise the Better Ghana Agenda.
She described the theme for the occasion as an encouragement to wake people from their slumber of individualism and look into the dawn of partnership that can bring about the sharing of ideas, experiences and ultimately innovation.
In the march parade award, Nzemaman Preparatory came first in the primary school category, followed by Christ The King and Nana Ayebie Amihere. At the Junior High School level Nzemaman Complex came first, Half Assini Catholic primary second and Christ The King third.
At the Senior High Schools (SHSs) Half Assini SHS was first while Annor Adjaei Senior High came second.
The Cadet Award went to the Christian Academy of Half Assini.
