New Abirem Chief donates resources for hospital fence wall construction

cementObrempong Kwesi Amo Kyeretwie, chief of New Abirem, has donated 3,000 blocks, 2,500 bags of cement and 15 trucks of sand and stones  for the construction of a fence wall around the New Abirem District hospital.

The gesture was the chief’s contribution towards protecting the hospital land from encroachers.

Dr Adams Mahami, the Medical Superintendent in charge of the hospital, made this known when the Ghana Hope Foundation (GHF), in collaboration with Ntiamoah Foundation, both non- governmental organizations and Newmont Golden Ridge Limited presented a quantity of medical equipment and supplies worth $234,404 to the hospital.

The items which were donated by Willamette Valley Medical Centre in the USA include microscope, sterile, pat, medical dupes, maternity supply, hospital beds, respiratory supply, medical gloves and wheel chairs.

Dr Mahami said the hospital was facing a lot of challenges and appealed to the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Birim North District Assembly to come to its aid with the needed equipment and vehicle to improve health delivery system in the district.

Obrempong Kyeretwie thanked the donors for the gesture and gave the assurance to mobilize the needed human and material resources to raise the standard of the hospital and appealed to Newmont to help facilitate the construction of a permanent theatre for the hospital.

Dr John Neeld of Willamette Medical Centre, who made the presentation, said the centre would continue to assist the hospital to cater for the health needs of the people.

Dr Neeld is leading a six- member medical team from the centre for a two- week medical treatment in surgery and breast cancer to the people in the district.
