2014 FIFA World Cup: Sudan to camp in Addis Ababa for Ghana clash

footballSudan, Black Stars opponent in next weekend’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier have settled on Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for a training camp ahead of the game.

The Desert Hawks will pitch camp in the second most populous country in Africa to fine-tune their preparations for the Group D qualifier scheduled for March 24 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicate head coach, Mohamed Abdallah will name his squad for the clash after the Omdurman derby between the country’s two most successful clubs, Al Hilal and Al Merrikh on March 12 at the Hilal Stadium. The two clubs are the biggest suppliers of players for the Sudan national team.

The Desert Hawks which boast of a locally dominated squad will be in the Ethiopian capital from March 18 before leaving for Ghana four days later.

The Sudanese have just a point from two games after being stripped off three points for fielding an ineligible player despite defeating Zambia 2-0 in the qualifiers opener last year.

The Stars, two points richer than the 1970 African champions need nothing short of victory to inject some hope into their aspirations of a third successive appearance at the Mundial.

The Sudanese held the Black Stars to a barren draw at the Baba Yara Stadium three years ago in a joint World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Current Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah was at the helm of the team in an acting capacity at the time.
