Abedi Pele’s Nania gets Ghana FA Cup round of 16 place
Nania FC sealed their place at the round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup with a hard fought 2-0 win over Dawhenya United on Monday at Legon.
A goal in each half from Bismark Appiah and Edmund Asiedu was enough for the “Pride of Paga” to reach the next round of the knockout competition.
Nania, winners of the annual competition in 2011 was given a good run for their money by the third-tier side, handled by Prince Owusu, a former coach of the homers.
The game was marred by clashes between players of the two sides in the dying embers, which saw either side finish the game with 10-men each. Nania’s Eric Tuffuor was given the marching off orders just as Moses Awuni for the visiting side.
Nania got off well with the instructions of trainer and ex-captain of the Black Stars, Abedi Pele Ayew, telling in their play.
Against the run of play, Appiah broke the deadlock profiting from a through pass from Asiedu to slid past onrushing goalkeeper of Dawhenya United.
The visitors never looked back but found the Nania backline too strong to break through.
The second half was balanced with both sides having decent chances at goal. However, it was Nania, which had the last laugh with Asiedu scoring the insurance goal in the dying embers of the game.
