High spate of accidents stretching Central Regional Hospital staff
The Administrator of the Central Regional Hospital, Mr Emmanuel Adjei-Frimpong on Tuesday, expressed worry that the magnitude of road accident cases is having a toll on the few medical staff.
According to him the escalating motor accident cases in the past two months have overwhelmed the staff of the hospital who are forced to work extra hours to help save lives.
Mr Adjei-Frimpong made this known when the Regional Director of the Ghana Road Safety Commission, Mr Stephen Anokye called on him at his office, after visiting accident victims at the Hospital.
Mr Adjei-Frimpong praised the staff at the facility for working tirelessly around the clock to prevent the loss of lives, despite the constraints.
He said the Medical Director, Dr Daniel Asare was in consultation with the Regional Health Administration and other health institutions for the posting of more personnel to the facility to help meet the challenges.
Out of the 523 staff of the Hospital only 14 are Doctors and 193 nurses.
Mr Adjei-Frimpong described the upgrading of the Facility to a Teaching Hospital as a blessing because students from the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences would serve as a support staff.
Mr Anokye warned recalcitrant drivers to desist from careless and inconsiderate driving because the Commission would ensure that those caught on the wrong side of the law would be prosecuted.
He said it would continue to engage stakeholders in rigorous educational campaigns and enforce the new Legislative Instrument (LI 2180) that bans talking on mobile phones whilst driving and driving without wearing seatbelts among other offences.
