Dr Danaa promises to build effective partnership between chiefs and government
Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs Minister Dr Henry Seidu Daannaa has called on players within the sector to let the footprints of the institution remain in the political, economic and socio-cultural development of the nation.
During a working visit to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs at Dodowa, Dr Daannaa assured stakeholders that frantic efforts would be made to resource the institution to enable it play its effective and expected role in governance.
He said the Ministry would recruit and train more staff as well as organise regional seminars to discuss the way forward for chieftaincy.
The Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs Minister pledged his determination to build effective bridges of collaboration and partnership to ensure harmonious relationships between traditional rule and central administration.
He assured traditional rulers that while relaying government policies to them in the interest of the nation, his doors were always opened to listen to their views and articulate their concerns.
The Minister was full of praise to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for its remarkable achievements over the years and urged members to give the Ministry the fullest cooperation in its resolve to find lasting solutions to the numerous chieftaincy litigations facing the House.
Nene Abram Kabu Akuoku III, Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area and the President of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs said, it was gratifying that the recent restoration of six divisional stools in the Ga Traditional Area to paramountcies and the subsequent inauguration of their traditional councils had brought congenial atmosphere in the region.
Nana Akuoku mentioned the absence of a modern building to accommodate the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, the lack of a generator, the deplorable condition of the two-kilometre access road to the House, and lack of residential accommodation for staff, as the major challenges facing the House.
He, therefore, urged the Minister to use his good office to help address these problems.
The President of the House also advised the Ministry to organise training programmes for the chiefs to keep them abreast with the changing times.
