Two arrested over arms trade on Ghana-Togo border
Prosper Adewornu alias Dzakpasu Kofi 50, a Blacksmith and his son Safari Daworlo 21, Auto Mechanic and Blacksmith, have been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling guns and gun parts at Kakadedzi on Ghana-Togo border.
Two locally manufactured pistols, seven old locally made shotguns and two foreign shotguns, six BB-short-barrel gun cartridges and 39 empty cartridges were retrieved from them.
A grinder, metal boring machine, hammers, a newly made shotgun butt, iron file and tools were found in the blacksmith’s shop and Adewornu’s room.
Mr Emmanuel Odonkor, Aflao District Police Commander told Ghana News Agency that about 1400 hours on Tuesday, March 19, National Security personnel trailed and arrested Daworlo offering a locally made pistol for sale at Makavo Junction at Aflao and handed him over to the Police.
He said Daworlo told the police that he found the weapon in his late grandfather’s now dysfunctional blacksmithing shop and decided to sell it.
Mr Odonkor said Daworlo led the police to Kakadedzi near Agotime Kpetoe, where he initially identified Adewornu as his uncle and the one in charge of the Blacksmith shop.
A search of his room and the blacksmith’s shop led to the seizure of the items.
Mr Odonkor appealed to the public to volunteer information to the security agencies about suspected criminal activities in their neighborhood.
