Ghana to host African aviation session

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport would host the 23rd Plenary Session of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) in Accra from 2nd-5th April, 2013.

AFCAC was created by a Constitutional Conference convened by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the then Organization of African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1964.

The commission, which comprises 54 African States, is the specialized agency of the African Union responsible for Civil Aviation matters in Africa. AFCAC facilitates cooperation and coordination among African States towards the development of integrated and sustainable Air Transport system; and fosters the implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices and development of harmonized rules and regulations, consistent with the best international practices in civil aviation.

The GCAA said participants at the conference, which would take place at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, would include Ministers of States, Directors-General of the various Civil Aviation Authorities in Africa, the President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Mr. Roberto Kobeh Gonzmnmález and delegations from various international aviation organizations and countries.

Discussions during the session would focus highly on the improvement of aviation safety in Africa and collaborative measures that would enable the industry in Africa to meet the growing demands.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority said it is proud to host the 23rd Session as part of its commitment to ensuring Aviation Safety and Security.
