NLA to build assembly hall complex for Dworwulu Special School

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) is to build a multi-purpose assembly and dining hall complex worth over half a million cedis for the Dzorwulu Special School.

Mr George E. Gyamfi-Osew, NLA Director in charge of Special Projects, said the gesture was in relation with the mandate of the constitution which enjoined the NLA to support the less privileged and the disadvantaged in the society.

Mr Gyamfi-Osew said this on Thursday during the presentation of assorted food items worth GH₵6,000.00 to the school at a ceremony in Accra.

The items include 15 bags of rice, 20 bales of toilet rolls, 10 cartons of biscuits, 20 gallons of oil, a carton of canned beef, and 80 sets of NLA branded 50th anniversary T-shirts.

The NLA also presented various prizes to children who participated in special chairs race and dancing competition which formed part of the presentation ceremony.

Mr Gyamfi-Osew said the authority over the past eight years had adopted the school to show their benevolence, love and affection towards the children during Easter festivities.

Mrs Veronica Sackey, Headmistress of the school, expressed her appreciation to the NLA for contributing towards the education of the children especially in the area of skills training such as sewing, basketry and poultry.

She said the school’s enrollment had increased from 150 last year to 165 this year.

She urged parents not to hide their handicapped children in homes but bring them to school to acquire knowledge and skills for their future.

Mrs Sackey further asked parents to show extra affection to their handicapped children like they would to other wards.
