Churches, others support Ivorian refugees in Ghana
The Advocates and Trainers of Children’s and Women’s Advancement and Rights (ATWAAR) on Monday presented items donated by individuals, Churches and corporate organizations to Ivorian refugees at the Ampain Refugee Camp.
Mr. Dominic Kwesi Nyanzu, Presiding Member of the Ellembelle District Assembly, presented the items to Mr. Kelly Forson, the Camp Manager.
Madam Akua Ansah Eshun, Director of ATWAAR, said the items were donated by the individuals, Churches and corporate organizations during ATWAAR’s campaign themed “Clothe Ivorian Refugees at Ampain Refugee Camp”.
The items included about 20 bales of used clothes, a small refrigerator for the storing of vaccines and 500 copies of Dutch, English and French translation of the Bible, she said.
Citations were presented to the Takoradi High Street branch of the Barclays Bank, Western Regional National Audit Service, Market Circle branch of Ecobank and the Lower Pra Rural Bank for their response to the campaign.
Mr. Forson used the occasion to appeal for assistance to provide decent accommodation constructed with local materials for refugees at the camp.
He said most of the refugees were staying in emergency tents constructed with plastic sheets which could easily get burnt.
Mr. Forson said the refugees found it difficult staying in the tents in afternoon because of heat and during heavy rains.
