Doctors’ strike: Public urged to access private clinics with health insurance cards

The Government is encouraging holders of the NHIS card to access private or mission clinics in the country as public sectors doctors are still on strike.

A statement signed by Information Minister, Mahama Ayariga, said the health insurance cards are not only for government hospitals and pharmacies thereby encouraging all cardbearers who need medical attention to look out for private or mission hospitals in their area.

“There are hundreds of such private and mission clinics and hospitals across the country, and government believes there is no reason for people to suffer because the doctors in government facilities have decided to embark on a strike for no justified reason”, said the statement.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Health has also been directed to liaise with the Ministry of Defence to ensure that the 37 Military Hospital operates at full capacity in order to handle the expected larger number of patients.

It adds that doctors from the 37 Military Hospital will also be pooled and seconded to the Ridge and Korle Bu Hospitals to assist with OPD services.
